MURA Field has operated in Lincoln School in North Minneapolis since the 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) season. In 2021, the State of Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) provided funding for a durable field perimeter. In 2021, Minneapolis Urban Robotics Alliance (MURA) became a 501 c 3 non-profit registered in Minnesota. Boston Scientific and Seagate were founding sponsors.
In addition to the full-size practice field, there is a small repair shop adjacent to the field and a larger machine shop/maker space being created on the ground floor. This facility is available to any FRC team but primarily serves those located in Minneapolis and the West Metro. This complements the HCPA Field that serves St Paul and East Metro teams.
MURA Field was started by FRC Team 2500, Herobotics, when they received permission from the Minneapolis Public Schools to build a wooden field in the unused Lincoln School. Since then, a collaboration of Southwest, Washburn, Camden, Roosevelt, Edina, Hopkins, and MN STEM Partnership has operated the field.
The shop near the field has a chop saw, drill press, band saw, and wire wheel/grinder plus a range of hand tools . Teams using the field are free to use this shop for robot repairs.
Mentors accompanying teams to MURA Field are responsible for proper tool use and safety of their team members while using the tools. If there is any question, please ask the field supervisor for assistance. And, if tools are damaged, please alert the field supervisor immediately.
